Meet Strategy Lab: AI to sharpen your Strategy!
Strategy Lab is your one-stop strategy brainstorming partner fit for product and business builders. You can get your strategy documents reviewed, or you can get them rated.
Getting to a Strategy is a complex process.
Not only because you need to understand how to write it down in a way it makes sense to a large set of people, but also it should be well-informed and actionable enough to to win in the market.
A nice strategy document that doesn’t help you act and win in the market, is wishful thinking.
When I wrote 10 Questions of Strategy, it was a culmination of all what I learnt iterating on strategy in different roles at different stage companies.
Eventually thinking about strategy in set of questions is a good way to get you to get rid of your own personal biases, and focus on all the elements you need to unlock strategic success:
The support I received on this specific newsletter edition was phenomenal - 30,000 people read it and it was reshared ~200 times.
I also have been speaking about 10 questions of strategy in product conferences and podcasts. The more I speak about them, the more it is clear to me that product / business builders need a way to apply this questioning framework to their strategy process.
One of the ways you can apply above 10 questions is that they make for a good basis for a team workshop, and having people think in these 10 directions in a workshop is a great way to ignite people’s minds on all aspects of strategic thinking.
But, with the advent of GenAI tools, I though it might be a good idea to give you an AI tool that will allow you to have a strategy brainstorming partner to:
Review and suggest improvements in your existing strategy document
Objectively rate the strategy document out of 100 on different quality measures, so you can track your improvements over time
Strategy Lab AI is a CustomGPT available in the ChatGPT Store, and it is built from the learnings of many strategy frameworks, including the 10 Questions.
Below is how you can get started, and demo of its capabilities.
You can either find it by searching for Strategy Lab in the ChatGPT Store:
Or You can directly access it using the link below. Please note that if you’re not logged into your ChatGPT account, it will first ask you to login in order to start using Strategy Lab
When you access Strategy Lab Custom GPT, you will be welcomed with a familiar UI that prompts you to choose between getting your strategy reviewed, having it rated or reading the privacy information. But if you want to just start chatting with the CustomGPT, you can too.
Now let us see a little demo.
For the purpose of the demo, I will provide the GPT with Tesla’s publicly available strategy note.
I will copy paste the note into the Strategy Lab AI, and ask it to first rate the strategy document objectively so I first know where I stand:
And once I copy and paste the full text on Tesla Strategy (you can also upload your strategy document file directly), the GPT gives me ratings out of 10 on 4 parameters. See the demo video below:
Now let us say, I want to use this tool as a Strategy brainstorming buddy, then I can ask it to fully review my strategy:
And the tool will give you a full breakdown on strengths and weaknesses of your strategy, and what can you do to make it better:
Now lets say I don’t get it what the feedback mentions specially when it says “specific actions are missing”, so I go deep into one part of the feedback:
The CustomGPT would start giving me explicit examples and recommendations of what kind of actions may be included in the strategy document to make it robust:
And so on.
Here are some more important notes about Strategy Lab AI:
It has been trained on 10 Question framework as well as ability to deep dive into strategic cross-questioning, so it becomes your strategy assistant.
It is not allowed to search the Internet for information, hence it will always talk to you in context of the strategy document you share.
When you open the customGPT, it gives you an active prompt to read about protection of your shared data and information, you can read it in detail, but here’s a snapshot:
Happy Strategyzing, and let me know your review of using the Strategy Lab AI by answering two simple polls:
